Background of Re-Surge Africa
The Charity Re-Surge Africa was formed to help train medical personnel in the techniques of reconstructive plastic surgery in developing countries.
Re-Surge Africa is committed to training local surgeons, nurses and therapists in techniques required to enable patients suffering from congenital deformities and other birth defects , burn injuries and road traffic victims to receive appropriate treatment.
In 2009, Re-Surge Africa began to operate in Sierra Leone, a country which is currently still recovering from the effects of a civil war that ended in 2002.
There is a severe lack of doctors and other medical facilities in Sierra Leone with no facilities available for patients who require reconstructive plastic surgery.
Re-Surge Africa, having identified this problem began a training programme to train local surgeons, nurses and therapists in the techniques of reconstructive surgery and treatment in the Holy Spirit Hospital in the town of Makeni.
Job Description
The nursing staff at the Holy Spirit Hospital have been trained locally with some receiving training in Ghana.
Most staff have limited exposure to the techniques required to look after patients undergoing reconstructive surgery with a need to refresh other techniques learnt.
The nursing staff require in-service training which needs to be monitored by a suitably qualified nurse to undertake the role of a clinical nurse tutor, based in Makeni.
