Driver requirements

    Duties to be carried out by driver
    Reporting to work on time, on the days when he/she has been assigned jobs
    Carrying out of assigned jobs in the most effective and efficient manner. The assigned job refers to the following tasks

  • Delivery of units to designated locations

  • Set up of units in conjunction with assigned loaders

  • Collection of units from event location and return of the same to headquarters for cleaning, maintenance and storage

  • Attending to fuelling of designated vehicle

  • Driving staff members to meetings/events as assigned

  • Carrying out exhausting jobs

  • Carrying out other errands as may be assigned by operations manager
    Reporting of any incidences that may occur during delivery, set up and collection of units
    Filling out of mileage book daily
    Filling out of job sheets daily
    Ensuring that the designated vehicle and/or trailer is always clean and presentable
    Reporting, immediately any malfunctions to the designated vehicle that may require repair
    Hours and pay

  • A standard working day shall have 8 hours

  • Hours worked beyond the standard 8 hours shall be considered overtime

  • The maximum hours a driver can work in a day is 12 hours

  • All the days of the week are considered standard working days ( i.e working on Sunday/holidays does no attract any special rates)

  • Hours to be worked will be assigned by operations at least 2 days in advance

  • Hours to be worked shall be assigned based on driver availability and efficiency

  • Pay shall be as per attached pay structure

  • Payment shall be made at the end of the month after reconciliation of job cards by accounting and operations

  • Per diem and lunch allowances for out of town jobs shall be paid prior to the job

    Driver/Messanger (International Union for Conservation of Nature)

    Specific responsibilities include:

  • Drives the IUCN Project Vehicle on various official errands such as but not limited to taking staff to the field for project implementation activities, picking up and delivering supplies, documents, mail, and guests to various destinations.

  • Communicate effectively with Supervisor on driving schedules/timeline.

  • Maintain a good driving record and ensure all incidents are reported in a timely manner and through appropriate channels.

  • Ensure the safety of the vehicle and accessories at all times during the time of use.

  • Facilitate routine maintenance of office vehicles, including proper and regular completion of vehicle maintenance records. The Driver/Messenger is expected to notify the Supervisor when vehicle servicing is required (either routine or due to mechanical fault), and is responsible for ensuring that vehicles are washed and cleaned, fuelled, tyres and engine oil checked.

  • Maintenance of accurate vehicle service schedules.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable traffic laws, regulations, and/or IUCN rules, standards and guidelines on vehicle usage.

  • Keep records as required and maintain a clear daily record of work done and/or vehicle movement.

  • Handling daily messenger work for the office including:

  • Collecting, sorting and delivery of mail and/or parcel to and from the post office and various offices on a regular basis;Undertake any other duties as assigned from time to time.
    Competencies

  • At least Kenya Certificate of Education

  • Possession of a valid Driver’s license with at least five years of continuous driving experience in a reputable and busy organization and/or City.

  • Exceptional knowledge of Tana Catchment Area and Northern Kenya road network and driving conditions.

  • Good communication skills both oral and written English, Somali and/or Orma.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working ¡n a multi—stakeholder project environment.

  • Clean driving record, with no violation of traffic law or major accidents.

    Driver (Media Council of Kenya)

    Key responsibilities:

  • Transport authorised persons for official duties using corporation vehicles.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle –check oil level, water, coolant, battery, tyres etc.

  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle including arraigning it for repair using the prevailing procedure.

    Key qualifications:

  • Possess a clean Driving license Class E and free from any negative endorsement.

  • At least three (3) years driving experience.

  • Possess Government Trade test III.

  • Have adequate knowledge of the Highway Code.

  • Have knowledge of driving rules and conversant with road security code.

  • Have a valid certificate of good conduct from Kenya Police renewable every two years.

  • Possess a KCSE certificate C plain and above.

    Overall Objective of the Position

  • To ensure the overall safety of passenger, vehicle and any luggage aboard.

  • To carry passengers and cargo as requested
    Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the assigned vehicle is kept in good condition

  • To ensure that good driving practice is observed at all times to maintain the condition of the vehicle.

  • To report any malfunction or damage to the vehicle to the Line Manager immediately, and to ensure that the vehicle is fully repaired, serviced and otherwise maintained as requested by the Line Manager.

  • To ensure the safety of driver and passengers throughout the duration of journeys by driving at all times in a safe and alert manner, conforming to the rules of the road and making sure safety belts are worn and doors are locked.

  • To load and offload the vehicles and ensure the correct transporting of goods.

  • To be adaptable and involved in the field work as requested by the teams.

  • To carry out any other duties of a similar nature which the Line Manager may require from time to time.

  • Must have valid, clean driving license & certificate of Good Conduct

  • Should have a minimum of two years experience driving personal vehicles.

  • Good interpersonal, communication (English & Kiswahili written and spoken) a must.

  • Must have good knowledge of Nairobi roads.

    Driver III

    Duties and Responsibilities
    This is the entry grade into the Driver’s cadre.Duties and responsibilities at this level will involve:

  • Driving a motor vehicle as authorized;

  • Carrying out routine checks on the vehicles, detecting and

  • Reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems;

  • Maintenance of work tickets for vehicles assigned;

  • Ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road;

  • Safety of the passengers and /or goods therein;

  • And maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle.
    Requirements for Appointment
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade ‘D’ (plain) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;

  • A valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for class (es) of vehicle(s) an officer is required to drive;

  • Attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than on (1) week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya institute of Highway and building technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;

  • Passed Suitability Test for Driver Grade III;

  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police; and

  • At least two (2) years accident- free driving experience.
    Requirements for Appointments:
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) Division IV or Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of D+ or ‘D’ (plain)
